My companion and support for this ride was Nilesh Dhruve also on deputation from Jamnagar to Phagwara. Saach pass is supposedly open for traffic - at least on paper - reality was something diffrent...!!! On the map of Himachal Tourism and on Lonely Planet road maps - Saach Pass is shown as a Trekking route to Pangi Valley. Pangi has remained isolated to the rest of Himachal as the only way to mainstream Himachal was then through Keylong ( a road which again remains closed for a major part of the year ). It's at a altitude of 14500 Feet and the last 30 odd kms from Bairagarh is absolutely killing. BUT... The PWD GH at Tissa.... it's about 70 kms from Chamba Enroute to Saach Pass Entrance to the Pangi Valley Some stretches were absolutely beautiful... Road conditions were killing... and then there were the roadblocks... but the colours of the trees were absolutely great... And then immediately there were some stretches... The As we rode ahead... the snow had not yet melted at some places.. Lotsa streams at many places... Flowing streams en route... The views of the vista were absolutely great... We were beginning to reach the upper lines and it started getting cold... and the worst part was that we were not really prepared for all the cold... a fact which took it's toll on us...as we started nearing the top... And then suddenly WE HAD REACHED SAACH PASS...!!!!! The views AFTER saach pass were breathtaking... that's ND... he really got a big thrill out of all the snow... the cold really had started hitting us.... it must have been atleast -10 degrees and totally cloudy and windy... that took it's toll on us... there I was... absolutely freezing.. and there he was.. :-) romping around in the snow..!!! absolutely beautiful.. this is my pc's wall paper right now :-)) Distances in Pangi valley from Saach Pass

The first one with my wife Smita, more so as a prelude to the looong Ladakh ride that we are planning this June - July (see details on the main page ) Jambughoda wildlife sanctuary is Near Pavagadh, roughly 180 Kms from Ahmedabad. We'd decided to skip the touristy Kada Dam and instead made our way to the Targol Guest house of the Forest Dept. The guest house is situated on a small hillock and overlooks a small reservoir. The Jambughoda sanctuary spread over 130.38 sq kms, with its dry teak and dry mix deciduous forest, is home to a variety of wild animals including leopards, reptiles and birds. The sanctuary has rich vegetation as well. Definitely a must do in Monsoons and Winters. Total Distance covered 460 kms. Riders Gaurav, Kavin & Us. The little Rann of Kutch, a place where the sky is an equisite shade of blue, where if you stand still you can feel the silence of 5500 sq kms of emptiness, where at night, sleeping on the hard caked soil, you can see the stars so clearly and so bright that a normal city dweller could never even imagine..!!! Started Solo from Ahmedabad, met up with Gaurav & Anuj a.k.a Rocky a.k.a Rocksy a.k.a Rocksy Baaaiby ;-) at the border of the Rann. The Rann of Kutch is in 2 parts - Greater Rann and Little Rann. Greater Rann is 8,500 sq km and Little Rann is 5,500 sq km. The Little Rann is roughly between Amdavad and Gandhidham and the route followed for this ride was via Dhrangadhra - Halvad - Tikar - Little Rann - Kuda Village - Varnu and back. The Rann is actually a sea-bed that is dried up. In monsoons, most parts of the Rann get filled with sea water. In the summer, the water receeds, the soil hardens and thus bikes can travel through it. Call it whatever you want, but we had a mindblowing time... One of my best rides.. a total of 1040 kms over 3 days with 60 kph. There were 6 of us, 4 from Maharashtra ( Richard, Nikhil, Jan and Gaurav ) and Amol n me from Gujarat. We rode thru 2 sanctuaries i.e Purna Sanctuary and the Vansda National Park. Purna Sanctuary is a part of dense moist deciduous forests in Western Ghat of Gujarat and supports gamut of flora and fauna of very high evolutionary value. The Sanctuary ( spread over 160.8 sq. km ), along with Vansda National Park, is the only Protected Area in South Gujarat for conserving diverse biological resources. We visited 2 waterfalls of the region Gira Falls and Giramal falls where the water falls from a height of almost 150-175 feet on the rocks below...!!! Our stay for the ride was facilitated by the Forest Dept at their guest houses at Ahwa and Subir, with both of these being more than 100 years old and exclusively available for us. Ahmedabad - Saputara - Shirdi - Saputara - Ahmedabad... most of the pics are from the Dangs region only as wanted to capture the beginning of the rains in this region... at many places, the rivers had started flowing over the bridges and pretty soon they were closed for traffic... luckily we made it over and back to Ahmedabad just before all hell or rather the heavens broke loose over the region... On way to saputara... the landscape was absolutely fantastic... just reached saputara... view from my room from the another angle of the window.. it was water water everywhere... the front of the log hut... on way back from Saputara, there were small falls like this on the road all the way... this is one of the first shots of the filled up Ambica river that flows thru Dangs when we had gone to saputara, there was hardly any water... in just 2 days, the river was flowing from bank to bank... there WAS a road here that connected these 2 sides... the main nallah / bridge to cross over... it was just about overflowing.. if we would have been even 30 mins late... we would have had to turn back... crossing the bridge... a tempo crossing the bridge after we were thru to the other side... the rising water level beginning to go over the bridge... that's my sister and brother why should i be left behind... other vehicles just about attempting to cross over... amongst the last one to cross over this bridge... the river ambica overfloweth... that's my family at gira falls... first view of the gira falls... gira falls... the roar of the falls was deafening... uh...um... that's me and my definitely better half... :-)) Gira falls from a distance...

Spotted some birds in a farm outside Gandhidham... stopped to have a dekko... the birds thoda aur zoom karen... look like cranes... the 72 jinaalaya temple near mandvi ( the temple is a round shape and has 72 Idols of Jain gods. ) Ship building @ Mandvi Just on the outskirts of Mandvi town, you can see the local shilpbuilding activity going on. The techniques used to build such ships have not changed much over the years... The Mandvi town pond... pelicans i believe.. experts can provide their views... seagulls hovering around the pond for the peanuts that the local junta used to throw and they used to catch them in mid air... Outside Vijay Vilas Palace Vijay Vials Palace is the place where a major portion of hum dil de chuke sanam was shot.. The sunrise @ Gandhidham... just as i was about to start for the day... Yeh jahah kai dekhi hui thi... kyaa main idhar pehle aa chuka hun...?? The superspeciality hospital built by the govt @ Bhuj. Sadly, now they dont have doctors who are ready to come here and work... The Kunvareshwar Mahadev temple... The Shivling @ the temple.. Outer view from inside the temple.. The temple from outside.. The temple is stated to be built in the 9th century.. it suffered major damage in the earthquake The govt built outhouse opposite the temple.. There are no cement work etc in the temple... the whole thing was built on the basis of rock setting onto each other... They were there ;- ) and having a rocking time... Mata No Madh Temple The temple houses the idol of Ashapura Maa, the Outside the Mata No Madh temple... The Pandhro Lignite power project in the offing... it is a huge project in terms of its size.. The map of kutch and the pandhro project in the background The small flecks ahead are the trucks which are taking a break from transporting lignite from the excavation site to the power project a small river formation along the way.. The roads diverged in the woods.... and i took the road... Red Soil all around...
